Memorising Scripture

Memorising Scripture

John Piper

The value of memorising scripture:

  1. Makes mediation possible when you can’t read the bible and therefore a pathway to deeper understanding. Jos.1:8, Ps1:1-3

  2. Strengthen your faith; faith comes by hearing- the word  of God you have stored in your heart. Rom 10:17

  3. Shapes the way you view the world by conforming your mind to God’s viewpoint on everything. Rom12:2

  4. Makes God’s word readily accessible for you to overcome temptation because His promises and warnings are the way your guard your life from enemy infiltration and attack. 1Cor10:13, Jam4:7

  5. Guards your mind, making it easier to detect error. The world is filled with error.2Cor10:3-4,1Tim4:1-3

  6. Enables you to hit the devil in the face with a force he cannot resist and protect your family and your church from his assault.Eph6:10-18

  7. Provides the strongest and sweetest words for ministering to others in need.Col3:16, 2Tim2:15

  8. Provides the matrix for fellowship with Jesus. He speaks to us through His word and we can talk back to Him in prayer.John15:7

“I know of no other single practice in the Christian life more rewarding, practically speaking, than memorizing Scripture…No other single exercise pays greater spiritual dividends! Your prayer life will be strengthened. Your witnessing will be sharper and much more effective. Your attitudes and outlook will begin to change. Your mind will become alert and observant. Your confidence and assurance will be enhanced. Your faith will be solidified.”
