Psalms 103: Praise for the LORD’s Mercies A Psalm of David.
1 Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! 2 Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: 3 Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, 4 Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, 5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
We often forget the benefits that the Lord bestows when the waves of life attend or when we are in some dire straits. That is the time to remind yourself of the goodness of the Lord. It is the time to encourage yourself like David of old. David in his dark moments would pull out the psalms he had written before and sing them or pray them back to God. Good through a difficult patch recently I was led to this psalm that I have set to music to encourage myself. God can also take you Memory Lane in the midst of your current darkness to where He showed up big time in your valley of the shadow of death or how He sustained you in a famine. Remind yourself: I know my Lord is good because:
1. He forgave my sins
2. Healed me of all my diseases
3. Redeemed my life from destruction
4. Satisfies my mouth with good things
5. Crowns me with love and compassion and
6. Renews my youth as the eagle’s
Confess this and remind yourself when you feel downcast. Say to yourself, ‘My soul, be not downcast. For, I will yet praise Him. Weeping may endure for the night but joy is coming in the morning. Many are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lord delivers Him from them all. the righteous may fall seven times but he rises again. Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil. Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You are preparing a banquet, a sumptuous sup for me right in the presence of my enemies. My light affliction will work for me, an exceeding weight of eternal glory.’
