Forsake Me Not, O Lord

Forsake Me Not, O Lord

Psalm 38:21

Forsake me not, O Lord.

Frequently we pray that God would not forsake us in the hour of trial and temptation, but we too much forget that we have need to use this prayer at all times. There is no moment of our life, however holy, in which we can do without His constant upholding. Whether in light or in darkness, in communion or in temptation, we alike need the prayer, “Forsake me not, O Lord.” “Hold Thou me up, and I shall be safe.” A little child, while learning to walk, always needs the nurse’s aid. The ship left by the pilot drifts at once from her course. We cannot do without continued aid from above; let it then be your prayer to-day, “Forsake me not. Father, forsake not Thy child, lest he fall by the hand of the enemy. Shepherd, forsake not Thy lamb, lest he wander from the safety of the fold. Great Husbandman, forsake not Thy plant, lest it wither and die. ‘Forsake me not, O Lord,’ now; and forsake me not at any moment of my life. Forsake me not in my joys, lest they absorb my heart. Forsake me not in my sorrows, lest I murmur against Thee. Forsake me not in the day of my repentance, lest I lose the hope of pardon, and fall into despair; and forsake me not in the day of my strongest faith, lest faith degenerate into presumption. Forsake me not, for without Thee I am weak, but with Thee I am strong. Forsake me not, for my path is dangerous, and full of snares, and I cannot do without Thy guidance. The hen forsakes not her brood, do Thou then evermore cover me with Thy feathers, and permit me under Thy wings to find my refuge. ‘Be not far from me, O Lord, for trouble is near, for there is none to help.’ ‘Leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation!’”

“O ever in our cleansed breast,

Bid Thine Eternal Spirit rest;

And make our secret soul to be

A temple pure and worthy Thee.”

Eagle in Captivity- Full but Empty

Eagle in captivity

Full but empty

Living but dead

Assisted but restricted

Supplied not denied

Vision has vanished

It’s crying daily:

‘Let me go

Let me live

Let me be

What an eagle should be’

‘Give me a challenge

I love the chase

I love to soar

I love to swoop

From afar

For my prey

I like to hunt

I hate your luxury

Nothing but captivity

I am living but I am dead’

‘Who will set me free

To fulfil purpose?

O that your eyes will be open

To see that you’re no friends

But my enemies.’

‘I have powerful wings

But they are clipped

So I cannot sing

Existing but not living.

Made to soar

Now in a cage

Longer life

But empty life

Comfort that is a snare

With friends that are foes.

I can see far

But it’s of no use

I have power to pounce

But it’s wasted useless

What you don’t use you lose.’

‘Where is my offspring

that I train to reign?

Where is the valley of Bacca

That bring a spring

To go the extra mile

And make me sing

Have a second wind?

Where is the challenge

That bring a good change?

Where are the tests

That brings testimonies?

Where are the trials

That bring triumphs?

Where are the battles

That birth miracles?

I am living but I am dead.’

The eagle in captivity is a sorry sight. He has been robbed of his reason for being, his purpose: king of the skies.

So no matter the luxury and comfort you give, you have stripped it of life.  It is living but dead, in the lap of luxury but unhappy. It’s vision is vanished; its life is meaningless and empty.

You may think you are a saviour but you are the devil in disguise; an adversary come to bring its demise, disgrace and depression and oppression.

Imagine the how empty the life of Paul would have been without all the challenges he went through:But in all things we commend ourselves as ministers of God: in much patience, in tribulations, in needs, in distresses,

5     in stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in sleeplessness, in fastings;

in labors more abundant, in stripes above measure, in prisons more frequently, in deaths often.

2 Cor.6

24   From the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one.

25   Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep;

26   in journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils of my own countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren;

27   in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness —

28   besides the other things, what comes upon me daily: my deep concern for all the churches…. I was let down in a basket through a window in the wall, and escaped from his hands.

2Cor11:24-28

And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure.

8     Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me.

9     And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

10   Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

22   Then the multitude rose up together against them; and the magistrates tore off their clothes and commanded them to be beaten with rods.

23   And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely.

24   Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks.

25   But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.

26   Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed.

27   And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself.

28   But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, “Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.”

29   Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas.

30   And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

31   So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

32   Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house.

33   And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized.Acts16:

Without all these challenges, the Church including you and I would have been robbed of the incredible revelation knowledge he was privilege to receive from the Lord. He paid the price and obtained the prize which we now enjoy: what we have and who we are in Christ.

It is doubtless not profitable for me to boast. I will come to visions and revelations of the Lord:

2     I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago — whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows — such a one was caught up to the third heaven.

3     And I know such a man — whether in the body or out of the body I do not know, God knows —

4     how he was caught up into Paradise and heard inexpressible words, which it is not lawful for a man to utter.2Cor12:1-4

Through the rough times, he was made tough to fulfil his reason for being, his vision. His light affliction worked for him an exceeding weight of eternal glory. All things worked together for good for him because he loved God and was called according to the purpose of God.

We saw how neither death nor life nor tribulation, distress, persecution, famine nakedness, peril or sword, height nor depth, principalities, powers, demons could separate him from the love of Christ.

We saw how these oppositions and contentions brought promotion. Adversity brought maturity, integrity and well-rounded prosperity.

The eagle was allowed to live in the wild, face the trials of life and reign through them to fulfil his vision.

A pastor in Afghanistan, facing persistent persecution and torture was offered visa to the US where he could preach freely without any harassment and live in relative comfort.  He turned it down! Why?

He preferred the ‘wild’ where he could fulfil vision be himself and at the centre of the will of God for his life. Those who offered him the window of opportunity meant well but it was Satan dangling the carrot in disguise. He was wise to refuse the offered. He would rather die doing the will of God than enjoy the fleeting, transient, passing pleasures of life and be unfulfilled.

Another pastor in Zaria, Nigeria, lived constantly with his life in his hands because of Muslim fanatics who had sworn to kill him and his family and raze his church to the ground. They asked him to leave but he refused because God had planted him there. He knew that outside that place he would be like a fish out of water.

On one occasion a mob surrounded his car and wanted to use a dagger to thrust through the roof of the car to finish him off, and his wife was screaming. He told her to stop screaming and that God had put them there and if He wanted them to me martyred, then so be it. He would rather die in the will of God than live outside it.

So where does that leave you and I?

We too will be tempted to opt for the easy way out- path of least resistance and disturbance, remain in our comfort zone or leave the centre of God’s will for Satan’s palace of pleasure at God’s displeasure or rondezvous of ruin; a one way ticket to prison.

Abraham was told: ” Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you.

2     I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.

3     I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”

He got there and there was famine in the Land and he made a detour for Egypt.

What do we learn from this?

It is possible to start well and later start straying because of the obstacles we face in doing the will of God. We need to know that temptation will come but God is faithful and will through the temptation make a way of escape, that we may be able to bear. That way of escape may not always be deliverance but can be the power of endurance in the face of calamity or even death or home-going in a blaze of glory.(1Cor10:13)

Abraham had to go back to Canaan and Isaac had to remain in the centre of God’s will to be blessed, fulfilled and have the rest of God.

Isaac was also tempted to leave GerarThere was a famine in the land, besides the first famine that was in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Abimelech king of the Philistines, in Gerar.

2     Then the LORD appeared to him and said: “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land of which I shall tell you.

3     Dwell in this land, and I will be with you and bless you; for to you and your descendants I give all these lands, and I will perform the oath which I swore to Abraham your father.

4     And I will make your descendants multiply as the stars of heaven; I will give to your descendants all these lands; and in your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed;

He was in fact told not only to stay but to sow in the time of famine. And as he obeyed, God did not just bless Him but he had a 100fold return.

It is no different for you and I. There is a place for you; a Promised Land, your domain, like the skies for the eagle.  It is a good land where you will be free to be who God called you to be but there are giants there. There will be Goliath there to frighten you off. Lions and bears will raise their ugly heads and challenge you and I. Some people will give you safe haven ( out of sympathy) that look like heaven but in reality this will be hell to you if you are conned to trade our inheritance for a pot of soup, like Esau. Your freedom will be gone. You will be existing and not living, like the eagle. The accomplishments that would have been possible with the challenges you will face would be lost forever.

Stand to see your salvation! You will not die before your time. All things will work together for your good because you love God and are called according to purpose. Your affliction will work for you.

Remember: if we suffer with Him will also reign with Him.

Pressure Pays (by Fenny West)

Pressure pays

If you will stay

You’ll be raised

To a higher phase.

Like diamond is carbon

Under tons of pressure

To turn your glitter on

To make longevity sure.

Pressure will prune

With knife to ignite

Your night, trigger fruit

Not by your might

But by the Spirit.

Pressure paves

The way to rise

Out of the grave

To the skies

To your domain.

In the Issue of an Issue

It is true we all have issue or issues

Like the woman with the blood issue.

God knows what He should allow

To make us come to His throne and bow.

So no matter the trouble you face

Do not despair. Come to His Throne of Grace.

In the issue of an issue

Jesus is still Lord of lords

With a Name above all other names.

So we can decree by His word

For His glorious Kingdom to come.

Hannah agonised in this place

Until she saw His gracious face

Abraham and Sarah were here

But God allayed all their fears

Regarding the barrenness matter

At the set time gave them Laughter.

Lizzy and Zach were also here

But the Lord was very near

In the fullness of time, John came

And their lives were never the same

He went ahead to prepare the way

For Jesus- the Master and the Way.

Beautiful Rachel was also denied

Jacob’s faith was so sorely tried

He cried to God and God answered

Opened the womb that was closed

There was great joy and laughter

Praise and glory rose up as an aroma.

Dazzling ravishing Rebekah

Had everything going for her

Sadly her womb was barred-closed

God gave her twins when Isaac prayed.

This very God remains the same

Will answer those who trust in His name.

Manoah and his wife languished

In this barren Land of Anguish

But God sent His angel to end the spell

Gave them good news no one could foretell.

And so Samson came at the time appointed

Their hope and faith was not disappointed.

That God remains able to do

He is the mighty, Faithful and True

Able to do more than we can ask or think

Even if the condition is dead and stink

He can turn the table around

And make the barren womb sound.

So today, take Him at His word

Regardless of what you have heard

On the authority of His word stand

He’ll take you to your Promised Land

Stand, I say stand, regardless of the giants

Stand your ground even if they are adamant.

Let God be true and let every foe be a lair

Genesis 11

30 But Sarai was barren; she had no child.

12So it was, when Abram came into Egypt, that the Egyptians saw the woman, that she was very beautiful.Gen12:14

1     Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. And she had an Egyptian maidservant whose name was Hagar.

2          So Sarai said to Abram, “See now, the LORD has restrained me from bearing children. Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her.” And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai.Gen16:1-2

1     After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”

2     But Abram said, “Lord GOD, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?”

3     Then Abram said, “Look, You have given me no offspring; indeed one born in my house is my heir!”

4     And behold, the word of the LORD came to him, saying, “This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.”

Gen15:1-4

Genesis 17

21 But My covenant I will establish with Isaac, whom Sarah shall bear to you at this set time next year.”

10 And He said, “I will certainly return to you according to the time of life, and behold, Sarah your wife shall have a son.” (Sarah was listening in the tent door which was behind him.)

 Genesis 18

14 Is anything too hard for the LORD? At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.”

Genesis 21

1  For Sarah conceived and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

Elizabeth and Zachariah

36        Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren.

37        For with God nothing will be impossible.”

57   Now Elizabeth’s full time came for her to be delivered, and she brought forth a son.

58   When her neighbors and relatives heard how the Lord had shown great mercy to her, they rejoiced with her.

Luke136-37,57,58

Exodus 9

5 Then the LORD appointed a set time, saying, “Tomorrow the LORD will do this thing in the land.”

Rachel and Jacob

 Genesis 29

31 When the LORD saw that Leah was unloved, He opened her womb; but Rachel was barren.

The Shunammite Woman

12   Then he said to Gehazi his servant, “Call this Shunammite woman.” When he had called her, she stood before him.

13   And he said to him, “Say now to her, ‘Look, you have been concerned for us with all this care. What can I do for you? Do you want me to speak on your behalf to the king or to the commander of the army?’ ” She answered, “I dwell among my own people.”

14   So he said, “What then is to be done for her?” And Gehazi answered, “Actually, she has no son, and her husband is old.”

15   So he said, “Call her.” When he had called her, she stood in the doorway.

16   Then he said, “About this time next year you shall embrace a son.” And she said, “No, my lord. Man of God, do not lie to your maidservant!”

17   But the woman conceived, and bore a son when the appointed time had come, of which Elisha had told her.

2Kings4

Deuteronomy 7

13You shall be blessed above all peoples; there shall not be a male or female barren among you or among your livestock.

 Manoah and is wife

Judges 13

2 Now there was a certain man from Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren and had no children.

24   So the woman bore a son and called his name Samson; and the child grew, and the LORD blessed him.

Isaac and Rebekah

21   Now Isaac pleaded with the LORD for his wife, because she was barren; and the LORD granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

22   But the children struggled together within her; and she said, “If all is well, why am I like this?” So she went to inquire of the LORD.

23   And the LORD said to her: ” Two nations are in your womb, Two peoples shall be separated from your body; One people shall be stronger than the other, And the older shall serve the younger.”

Jehovah Shalom

Jehovah Shalom

The Lord, my peace.

The Prince of peace

Peace that passes

 all understanding

Peace like a river

That has burst its banks.

I refuse to fret

But in everything

by prayer and petition

Make my request known to Him

And His peace that transcends

 all understanding

Garrisons my heart and my mind

like an umpire, in Christ Jesus.

I Will cast all my cares upon Him

Because He cares for me.

Regardless of the Storms

Regardless of the wind

His Kingdom will come

and His will, will be done

Regardless of the fires,

They will set me free

To fulfil vision

They will make me

come forth like gold

Like job of old.

I receive peace right now

Like as river

Great peace have they that

Love your word:

“Stand still and see

 the salvation of the Lord

Be still and know that I am God.

The battle is not your but the Lords!

Fear not, I am with you.

I will help you and retain you

With my victorious right hand

of rightness and justice

Fear not! When you go through the water

When you go through the water,

Your boat may be small on the ocean wide

But your boat will not capsize.

Because the captain of Salvation is in your boat.

14   For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall,

15   by abolishing in His flesh the enmity, which is the Law of commandments contained in ordinances, so that in Himself He might make the two into one new man, thus establishing peace,

16   and might reconcile them both in one body to God through the cross, by it having put to death the enmity.

17   And He came and preached peace to you who were far away, and peace to those who were near;

18   for through Him we both have our access in one Spirit to the Father.

Wealth and Worth of the Word

Wealth and Worth of the Word

So, so, incredible, indescribable

Surpasses anything you have heard

 Contents of its vault: unbelievable!

Compass for navigating life on earth

Shoes of the Gospel to proclaim peace

Belt of truth, so you can every lie unearth

Breastplate of right-standing so you’re at ease.

Helmet to cover your mind from evil thoughts

The sword of the spirit to cut down demonic trees

Shield of faith to quench flaming arrows of doubt

Lamp for you to shine so that you can clearly see.

Water- liquid gold- more than silver and gold

Music to delight your soul and inspire you

Food for you to eat, grow in grace, till you’re old

Breath of fresh air, to breathe as to energise you.

Bed to lie down on and feel comfortable

Teacher-the Holy Spirit- to standby and strengthen

Guide, help, revive, recreate, restore, make you able,

Rise above obstacles, on eagle’s wings;

keep you on top of the table.

Clock for timing in everything; milk and meat.

Oil to make your face shine, oil your engine,

As you walk along the narrow road that leads to life.

Marriage Certificate, announcing your covenant with God.

Fire to refine you so that you come forth like gold.

Burial ground to bury your sins after you confess them.

Acquittal Certificate that declares your freedom

And sets you up gloriously for adoption,

Blood of Christ, to cover and wash away all your guilt.

Red light to warn you to wait: ‘Danger ahead!’

Green light to tell you that the way is free: ‘Go ahead!’

Epistles and love letters authored by the Holy Spirit,

To renew your mind and lift your spirit.

Green pastures and still waters to quench your thirst

And encourage you in your heavenly quest.

Divine spectacles for you to see things God’s way,

And prevent you from going astray.

Fishing net to equip you to fish for others

Who are lost, on the broad road and on hell’s borders.

Enemies who push you into our destiny.

Medicine to make you whole when you’re sick.

Good news to thrill and fill, warm and calm you.

Megaphone to announce the Good News,

To correct wayward, erroneous earthly views.

Parchment of God’s commandment.

Dynamite to break hard rocks on your way.

Tonic to pep you up give a fillip when you’re tired

God’s Voice to cheer, counsel and correct

God’s mind to interact with and mind your mind

Keep your Dream Alive! (by Fenny West)

inspirational, motivational, magnetic, energetic, charging, challenging
God has a plan, purpose and assignment for each one of us. That dream can only be fulfilled as we come to know Him and enquire of Him. Purpose that is not known or understood will be abused, wasted. Your dream will be opposed. David’s dream was opposed, Jesus’ was opposed. Joseph’s dream was opposed. Nehemiah’s dream was opposed, so relax when your dream is opposed. Or has your dram suffered a delay. God’s time is the best.

May this song encourage you to keep your dream alive; fan it ablaze, face it, follow it, and fulfill it to the glory and praise of your Maker.

KEEP YOUR DREAM ALIVE

Every one has an assignment.
Each one has a purpose.
Everyone has a God-ordained dream.
Life has no meaning
If you don’t know its reason.
So keep your dream alive!

CH
Keep your dream
Keep your dream alive
Go and fulfil purpose
Go now to your God
Let Him tell you your purpose
And life would have a new meaning

Fight the good fight of faith.
Fight for God- given dream.
Fight in the power of His might.
You’re a light, take your rightful place.
Shine Saint, in the night
So keep your dream alive.

“Child of God, I have a plan and purpose for you.
Be not side-tracked.. You will hear a voice saying to you:
“This is the way, walk you in it. I have a thought that I think towards you-
thought of peace and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope; a future
filled with hope. Like I had a plan for Jeremiah, so I have for you. Like I
had a plan for Abraham (Gen12:1-3), so I have for you. Like I had a plan
for Joseph—to save many in famine- so I have for you; like I had a plan
for Esther, to save her people from extermination, so I have for you; like I
had a plan for Nehemiah, to rebuild the broken down wall of Jerusalem,
so I have for you; like My plan for Moses- to lead his people out from the
house of bondage—so I have a plan for you; Like I had a plan for Paul- to
take he Gospel to the Gentiles, so. I have a plan for you.
If God be for you who can be against you?

Press on to the finishing line.

Fix your gaze on Jesus, the Author and Finisher of your faith.
“Like Jesus, finish the work that I have given you.”
Jesus said, “It is finished, I have finished the work that you gave me to do.”

Paul said, “I have finished my course I have run my race, I have kept the faith”
He also said, “I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision.”
So find that purpose, face that purpose, pursue that purpose, finish,

accomplish, and fulfil that purpose, assignment,

dream and calling. Finish in style and with finesse.
Accomplish your assignment!

The Grace of God: Lavish (by Fenny West)

The Grace of God

Unfurled at the Cross

Fulfilling the Word

Removing the curse.

Whoever will come,

Fall and bow the knee,

His Kingdom will come,

And will be set free.

This grace was costly-

The Blood of God’s Son;

Flows eternally,

For you and for everyone.
